2024 Trib HSSN Preseason Football All-Star Team: Elizabeth Forward's Christopher Climes
Jul. 26—Christopher Climes works out with a professional soccer trainer, which wouldn't seem unusual if the senior were a midfielder on Elizabeth Forward's soccer team. But he's not. The 6-foot-2, 305-pounder is one of the top defensive linemen in the WPIAL, yet credits a soccer background for some of his football success. "I was a soccer player my whole life," said Climes, a former youth ...

5 for Friday: This rookie class a little different
Much was made a year ago about rookies Broderick Jones and Joey Porter Jr. taking some time to work their way into the starting lineup. It didn't happen from Day 1. But both players had entered the NFL Draft as underclassmen, so Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin wanted to make sure they didn't hit a rookie wall by playing them a lot early.
Ben Cherington's trade deadline comments dampen mood around Pirates' recent success
In the latest edition of his weekly radio show on 93.7 The Fan, Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Ben Cherington turned his attention to the July 30 trade deadline. Prior to the 2024 season, the thought of the Pirates being deadline buyers would have sounded like a best-case scenario. Now, with the deadline just over a week away, it appears the likeliest scenario. The Pirates have had a recent run of success, including a six-game win streak that pulled them to within half-game of the last National League wild card spot. It shouldn't be too much to ask for them to lock up that wild card spot, especially given the depth of their playoff-caliber pitching rotation, but it's clear that they can use some upgrades on offense.
