March 2024: Our Spring Break Road trip involved a wonderful day in Verde Valley wine country! One of our small town stops was Clarkdale, AZ (pop.4,419*), which is 4 miles west of the larger town of Cottonwood (pop.11,265*), home to many regional wineries. We were impressed with the many amenities of such a small town! Clarkdale, it turns out is a unique example of an early planned community designed specifically to support a nearby mine (learn more history below!). We discovered a small town with a lot to offer, including an appealing hub for a wide variety of area activities.

Bodies of father and son found in Bear Creek Lake
Cause of drowning still unknown as a community mourns. The small town of West Helena is mourning the loss of two local residents after the bodies of 51-year-old Ryan Spakes and his 28-yearold son Nathan Spakes were discovered in Bear Creek Lake in Lee County. The father and son had been reported missing on Thursday and were found on Friday afternoon by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

For today ‘feels like’ temperatures will be in the triple digits, even up to 105 for areas in the Delta region which prompted a Heat Advisory for Lee and Phillips county Arkansas and Tunica, Coahoma, and Quitman counties in Mississippi. Conditions will be even warmer headed into tomorrow.
