Rapper Fatman Scoop dies aged 53 after collapsing on stage — details

New York rapper Fatman Scoop has died aged 53.

The musician, real name Isaac Freeman III, was taken to hospital after he collapsed on stage during a performance in Hamden, Connecticut on August 30. There is no further information about his cause of death at this present moment.

The talent agency MN2S revealed his death in a statement which read: "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear friend and client, Fatman Scoop, at the age of 53."

"Scoop was a beloved figure in the music world, whose work was loved by countless fans across the globe," they continued. "His iconic voice, infectious energy and great personality made an indelible mark on the industry, and his legacy will live on through his timeless music."

His tour manager Birch Michael — known as Pure Cold — took to social media to pay tribute to the star and announce the sad news: "It is with the heaviest of hearts I announce the passing of Isaac Freeman III, known professionally as Fatman Scoop."

He continued: "You taught me how to be the man I am today. I love you Scoop, thank you so much for everything you gave to me."

His family shared a heartfelt tribute to the star on Instagram, describing him as not just "a world class performer, he was a father, a brother, uncle and a friend." They described his legacy as one of "love and brightness."

Fatman Scoop was perhaps best known for his 2003 single "Be Faithful," which topped the charts internationally, produced by hip hop duo Crooklyn Clan. But the rapper also worked with the likes of Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Pitbull, and Skrillex.

Not only was Fatman Scoop still performing, but he continued to put out music. Just earlier this year, the rapper collaborated with Tech N9ne on the single "No Popcorn."

Outside of music, the rapper had a varied life. Before taking part in Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs. USA , he revealed that his moniker came from his uncle Jack, who would "always take me to get ice cream."

He added: "I loved ice cream! My parents would say, 'Stop feeding that boy ice cream!' But he said, 'I don't care, give him what he wants!' He nicknamed me Scoop and it stuck."
