Huskers to host 2026 defensive back next weekend
A class of 2026 recruit has scheduled a visit to Nebraska next weekend. JJ Dunnigan is a 6-foot-2 defensive back from Manhattan High School in Manhattan, KS. Dunnigan will be in Lincoln on July 27 to meet new defensive backs coach John Butler. Butler is taking over for Evan Cooper, who resigned last week for personal reasons. The new Cornhusker coach is excited to continue his career at Nebraska. “I am excited to join Coach Rhule, this staff, and the great tradition of Nebraska Football and the Blackshirt Defense. I look forward to working with our players to develop them as players, students, and young men, Day by Day!” The 6-foot-2 Dunnigan is currently considering Nebraska, Kansas State, Kansas, and Colorado State. Brave Animal Rescue hosts animal meet and greet at brewery
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - One local nonprofit combined pints and pets at an event to promote animal adoption. Brave Animal Rescue, who spays, neuters and houses foster pets in Lincoln, hosted the meet and greet at White Elm Brewery, allowing attendees to enjoy a drink while meeting a new furry friend.
Kearney Little League Defeats Hastings Little League, Advances to Championship on Sunday
KEARNEY, Neb. — It came down to the wire, between two historic little league programs. But in 2024, it's Kearney Little League that lives to see another day. Kearney defeated Hastings, 7-5, scoring four of its runs in the bottom of the third inning. Hendrex Cochran earned the save for Kearney, having to step onto the mound, in the top of the fifth.
North Platte Pow Wow: Pageantry, dance, honoring the Spirit
The colorful North Platte Pow Wow attracted about 300 spectators Saturday to the grounds at Buffalo Bill State Historical Park in the northwest corner of the city. The third and final day of the Pow Wow, with honor to all military veterans, begins Sunday at 11 a.m. with seven Quilt of Valor presentations.

Hudson Fryda, who plays for Kearney Little League, will compete in the Little League Home Run Derby in Seattle, on Sunday, following the Mariners' Sunday matinee with the Houston Astros.
Five-star offensive tackle names Nebraska as a top school
A top class of 2026 offensive lineman has cut his list of finalists, and Nebraska made the list. Jackson Cantwell is a five-star offensive tackle for Nixa High School in Nixa, Missouri. Cantwell cut the number of offers he’s currently considering in half. Nebraska is listed among the 14 finalists the tackle named earlier in the week. Cantwell excels at sports other than football as well. During his freshman year in high school, he threw the shotput 62-0.5 feet, good enough for the third longest all-time for a freshman.
