DES MOINES, Iowa — The world's longest, oldest, and largest recreational bicycle ride is back for its 51st trek across the state of Iowa. This year's version of RAGBRAI — the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa — departs from Glenwood on Sunday, July 21, and ends 434 miles later in Burlington on Saturday, July 27. Eagle Scout honors for Brayden Sego
Red Oak Scouts Troop 86 pack member Brayden Sego is celebrating his distinction of being named an Eagle Scout. Sego participated in an Eagle Rank ceremony at the Red Oak Elks Lodge on June 11. Sego is a long-time Scout, joining as soon as he was able to in the first grade.
Council shares pedestal concerns with Cabbage
At the Red Oak City Council meeting on July 1, Farmers Mutual Telephone Company (FMTC) representative Kevin Cabbage updated the council about the project’s progress. Cabbage said that overall, construction has been progressing smoothly. FMTC is currently constructing the main fiber route by placing vaults underground as well as pedestals above ground, which are then connected to an innerduct. Once this is completed, fiber optics will be pulled through that innerduct.
Omaha man arrested for stealing tools from construction site
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - An Omaha man was arrested for stealing tools from a construction site in excess of $5,000. Douglas County Sherriff’s Office arrested Natanael Topete-Perez as a result of a search warrant Thursday. This warrant came after a construction site on 211th and Ellison sent a theft report to the DCSO when they had found their trailer to be broken into.
Iowa man found dead in apparent drowning at Lake Anita State Park
CASS COUNTY, Iowa — An Iowa man was pronounced dead Wednesday in an apparent drowning in Cass County. Authorities were called to Lake Anita State Park Wednesday evening for a report of a drowning. First responders found Ysota Rekis, 53, of Atlantic, had been underwater for a significant amount of time, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

Central Nebraska Man Sentenced for Unlawful Firearm Possession
United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Tesluach Gatkuoth, 27, of Grand Island, NE, was sentenced July 17, 2024, in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska for being a felon in possession of a firearm. United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher sentenced Gatkuoth to 120 months’ imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. After Gatkuoth’s release from prison, he will begin a 3-year term of supervised release.
