HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) says repairs to the KY 812, also known as Clay Street, bridge in Henderson were completed on schedule Friday, and the roadway has now been reopened to traffic.

Officials say the bridge was closed in early May after a routine bridge inspection found deterioration to the bridge supports. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet engineers were able to design a repair project that allowed the bridge to be safely reopened to traffic until a project to fully replace the bridge can be completed.

Energy advisory ends tonight for Henderson residents

KYTC says it was able to encase the existing steel piers and concrete pilings under the bridge with a layer of concrete to form a new, sturdier support system. The new concrete piers will both support the bridge and prevent further deterioration to the old supports. With that work completed, the bridge is able to resume operation indefinitely.

Officials say the bridge replacement project will be advertised for construction bids later this year. Once a contractor is assigned to the project, a timeline for demolition and replacement will be announced.
