HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Crews were at the scene of a chemical spill in Evansville on Monday.

Battalion Chief Nick Raber says a pH test showed it was a “strong acid” but could not identify the substance on the scene.

Raber goes on to say crews neutralized the substance with a powder called “soda ash,” and kept it from entering the storm drain. He says no there is no “environmental concern” and no one was hurt.

The spill was reported just after 8 a.m. at the intersection of Diamond Avenue and Stringtown Road. Firefighters, police and INDOT officials were at the scene containing the spill.

Eastbound traffic on Diamond Avenue was blocked off while crews cleaned up the spill.

Raber says crews do not know who caused the spill at this time. We will update this story as new information is made available.
