HENDERSON, Ky. − The city and county codes offices issued permits for seven new single-family homes in June, the most of any month so far this year.

Those permits — four in the city and three out in the county — compares with six housing starts in June 2023.

So far this year, the city and county have issued permits for 22 new houses, compared with 25 during the first half of last year.

The biggest permit issued last month was a $475,000 permit for a commercial remodeling project at 101 Second St. Baird Private Wealth Management, currently located at 231 Second St., has leased the first floor of that building at Second and Water streets and is building out the interior with a target move-in date of Nov. 1, according to Branch Manager Kevin Farmer.

The construction value of last month’s permits totaled just over $4 million, compared with $13.1 million in June 2023, which included a $10.5 million permit for the city’s sports complex at 5845 Airline Road. Excluding that project, the June 2023 permit value totaled $2.6 million.

Through the first six months of this year, the construction value of all permits totaled nearly $141 million, driven largely by a $119.8 million permit for construction of the Sebree Solar solar energy farm near Robards. Excluding that, permits for the first half of this year totaled $21.2 million, compared with $28.7 million during the same period last year (or $18.2 million excluding the sports complex permit).
