HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – A Tennessee man is being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail on kidnapping charges where he allegedly tried kidnapping a local teenager.

According to an affidavit, Evansville Police officers were advised of a kidnapping report on April 18. Dispatch advised that a 17-year-old had been taken to Hendersonville, TN against her will by Demond Campbell, 27.

The affidavit says the juvenile was led to believe that she was going to Henderson, KY with Campbell to go to a dentist appointment. According to a run card, Campbell purposefully wrecked his vehicle with the juvenile in it while he was intoxicated.

Officers called the juvenile’s foster parents who they said their daughter and Campbell are friends. Officers were advised that the juvenile was allowed to go with Campbell under the pretense that they were going to stay in Evansville, and she would be home by 2 p.m.

The affidavit says when 2 p.m. came, the juvenile was not home, and she said she did not know where she was but thought she was possibly in Tennessee because of all the license plates.

The foster mother further stated that Campbell and the juvenile were involved in a wreck. She stated that she could hear the officer in the background state that Campbell’s driver’s license was suspended and that she needed to drive from the scene.

She also said the juvenile wanted to go back home, but Campbell refused to let her drive back and began calling her names.

The mother goes on to say the juvenile drove Campbell to a friend’s house in Hendersonville where he began drinking. The juvenile reportedly again requested to leave and got in the car with Campbell and began to drive back to Evansville where Campbell allegedly again began calling her names and now became physically abusive.

The mother said Campbell kept trying to grab the steering wheel and punched the juvenile more than once.

After the juvenile allegedly tried walking back to the friend’s home, Campbell allegedly made her get back in the car. The juvenile stated he intentionally tried to wreck the vehicle this time and was saying, “He’s trying to kill me.”

The affidavit says the juvenile was picked up by the foster parents in Tennessee.

Campbell was arrested in Hendersonville for numerous charges related to the accident including operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He is being held on a $10,000 bond.

At the time of this writing, Campbell’s booking photo was not available.
