Father-Daughter Pearls Presentation June 2

On Sunday, June 2, at 2:30 p.m., the Jabberwock Scholarship Program, Oxford Henderson Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., will sponsor a Father-Daughter Pearls Presentation at the Kerr Lake Country Club, 600 Hedrick Drive, Henderson, North Carolina.

The Jabberwock Scholarship Program is a fundraising activity for college scholarships. The word “Jabberwock,” copyrighted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., was taken from Lewis Carroll’s tale, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” The first “Jabberwock” was presented in 1925 in Boston, Massachusetts by members of the Iota Chapter to find a new method of raising money for their scholarship fund. In 1948, the first Jabberwock was held by the Oxford-Henderson Alumnae chapter, which was then known as the Gamma Beta Sigma Chapter. The Jabberwock is a gala event for elementary girls in grades Kindergarten through 5 ^th grade and high school girls in grades 11 and 12 to showcase their talent, participate in educational and cultural enrichment activities, and compete for scholarships and other awards.

The Father-Daughter Pearls Presentation is one of the events during the Jabberwock Program. The Father-Daughter Presentation highlights the value of the bond betwee n a father and a daughter, while the father of each Jabberwock participant presents the pearls that the participant will wear at the 75 ^th Anniversary Jabberwock on June 29 at 6:30 p.m. at McGregor Hall in Henderson.
