POLK COUNTY, Texas ( KETK ) – Crews are currently working around-the-clock to repair the Lake Livingston Dam after it was damaged during recent storms and declared a “potential failure watch.”

Henderson, Smith among East Texas counties approved for federal disaster relief funding

According to a release from the Trinity River Authority, the dam, that was completed in 1969 and filled in 1971, was damaged by recent rainfall and flooding.

Reportedly, crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to address areas that experienced erosion to ensure the dam can handle potential storm flow releases.

“The area is a construction zone, and only authorized personnel will be onsite. Additionally, the situation is under 24-hour observation and monitoring. It is too early to determine when the current repairs will be complete,” a release said.

Officials said the dam is in no immediate danger of failure or a breech, but the declaration of a “potential failure watch” is still in place.
