The Mediation Center, a nonprofit organization that serves the surrounding area, is looking for volunteers who want to assist in mediation.

The Mediation Center has been around since 1984, and its services are free. Mediation improves relationships, decreases future violence, and decreases community members’ use of police and courts to resolve interpersonal problems.

The Center is looking for people who want to join its team of volunteer community mediators. As a mediator, volunteers will help people in the community move through difficult and stressful conflicts by having productive conversations that put relationships first. The organization needs volunteer mediators in Henderson, Polk, and Transylvania counties, and training will begin on August 29 in Hendersonville.

It has experienced a large increase in people seeking services in these counties and is excited to bring new volunteer mediators in to serve more people. Mediators work together in pairs to mediate interpersonal community conflict, including conflicts between neighbors, family members, and friends. Services are confidential, voluntary, and non-judgmental.

Free training is available for accepted applicants.

For more information, email laurahj@mediatewnc.org or call (828) 251-6089.
