Flash flood warning in effect Sunday as isolated storms drench Twin Cities
MINNEAPOLIS — Sunday will bring a chance for isolated storms in the Twin Cities, and the next couple of days look to stay unsettled.Dakota, Hennepin and Ramsey counties are under a flash flood warning through 12:45 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Thunderstorms were producing heavy rain in those areas.The afternoon will bring more chances for storms. Nothing severe is expected, but there could be some heavier downpours. Activity should diminish once the sun sets.Sunday is also off to a humid, summer-like start. Temperatures across the state will top out in the lower 80s.More isolated storms are possible Monday and Tuesday as well.Expect average highs all week and increasing sunshine and temperatures as we head toward next weekend.

Hennepin County is set to start resurfacing work on Hemlock Lane/Zachary Lane (County Road 61) stretching from Arbor Lakes Parkway to 85th Avenue (County. Road 109). The project, aimed at improving the road conditions and safety for drivers and pedestrians alike, according to the City of Maple Grove.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office unveiled a new dashboard on Wednesday that lists the number of people in the county's jail.The dashboard is updated daily with the number of people in custody at the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center, and includes other public information such as their self-reported demographics, the arresting agencies, and the most serious charge brought them."I believe that any conversation about public safety must begin with accurate information," said Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt. "By launching this data dashboard, we are giving the public access to up-to-date information about the population in our jail. These tools and the jail data dashboard launching today are part of my commitment to openness and transparency."The interactive dashboard also lists the median number of days a person is in custody and the total capacity of the jail.

Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association (WH) members who participate in Operation Round Up (ORU) donated grants totaling $61,500 in June. ORU has awarded more than $5.1 million since it began in 1994. ORU participants allow their electric bills to be rounded up to the nearest dollar. Marisa Simonetti, the Hennepin County Board candidate who tossed a tarantula at her tenant, was in court Thursday as controversy continued around her campaign. Dressed in black and referring to herself as the "spider queen," Simonetti said she had a chance meeting with attorney John Daly at the Ridgedale courthouse in Minnetonka and he agreed to represent her on the misdemeanor charge of fifth-degree assault. The charge stems from a dispute Simonetti, 30, had with Jacklyn Vasquez, who was subletting the basement of her Edina home.

A Hopkins man admitted Monday that he murdered his girlfriend just days after being released from jail for previously abusing her. Matthew S. Brenneman, 40, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Danicka M. Bergeson in Hennepin County District Court, a little over a year after police found Brenneman covered in bleach in Bergeson's bathroom and her dead body wrapped tightly in blankets on her bed.
