Obituary – Georgia Craig Goodloe
Georgia Craig Goodloe, 88, of Glen Allen, Va., passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024. She was preceded in passing by her beloved husband of 29 years, Robert Bayard Goodloe; granddaughter, Brandi Rae Goodloe; her sister, Portia Craig; and her brother, Sonny Craig. Georgia is survived by her children, Gail Trice (Ed), Terry King (Jed), Colin Goodloe (Patsy), and April Murphy (Jim); her grandchildren, Bill Bollander (Taryn), Bob Bollander (Alison), Jim Bollander (Kelly), Craig Lam, Jay Goodloe (Magda), Erin Hobbs (Travis), Jake King (Dana), and John King; her 16 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Buddy Craig (Mary), Freddie Craig, and Dede Craig. Georgia was a devout fan of many sports because of the love she had for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a die-hard Redskins fan. One of Georgia’s favorite pastimes was browsing local yardsales to find hidden gems. Georgia was a very loving and independent woman who will be missed by many. The family will receive friends 5pm to 8pm, Friday, July 26, at Bliley’s- Staples Mill, where a Celebration of Life will be held on 11am, Saturday, July 27. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the Wounded Warriors Project in her honor.

Sandra J. Robinson, “Sandy” April 9, 1943 – July 9, 2024. Born and raised in Northern Virginia and a graduate of Mary Washington College, Sandy was a kind, empathetic, and compassionate person who loved gardening, Shakespeare, proper grammar, and dogs. She is preceded in death by her parents, Luther & Virginia Jones; son, Kevin Robinson; and niece, Tracy Jones. She is survived by son, Kelly Robinson & his wife, Jennifer; daughter, Kassandra Davey; brother, Luther Jones & his wife, Jan; sister, Linda McGonegal; and many nieces and nephews.
Obituary – George E. Ward Jr.
George E. Ward Jr., age 99, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Hermitage Retirement Community in Richmond. He was born on October 31, 1924 in Leesburg, Va to George and Della (Kirkpatrick) Ward. He graduated from Loundon County High School in 1942 and joined the Army Air Force to serve in World War 2. After returning from the war, he married Anna Lee (Toady) May in 1952 in Washington, D.C.

Brenda Lee Durham (Nuckols), born December 11, 1950, peacefully entered eternity on the night of Thursday, July 11, 2024, to be with her Lord and Savior. Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her parents, Howard and Charlotte Nuckols (Wells); her stepmother, Erma L. Nuckols; her sisters, Carolyn Taylor and Mary Melfi; and longtime companion and fur-baby, Dallas.
Obituary – Edward Brantley Burns Sr.
Edward Brantley Burns, Sr. was born on June 22, 1931, to Bland Burns and Edith Martin Burns, in Washington, DC. As children of the Great Depression, he and his brother, Calvin, had a tumultuous childhood, living for 10 years in an orphanage because their parents could not afford to raise them. When their parents were back on their feet, Ed and his brother lived between their mother in Northern Virginia and their father in Decherd, Tennessee. From a young age Ed had an adventurous spirit and he often spoke of “train-hopping” to see the country, as his father was a railroad engineer during Ed’s youth. Ed attended Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA, and following graduation, he apprenticed at the Newport News Shipyard. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1950 and served eight years, including a 10-month deployment in the Korean War, flying in the Boeing B-52 StratoFortress, a long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.
Bank of America celebrates student leaders from Freeman, Maggie Walker
Three high school students from Henrico County have been named Bank of America 2024 Student Leaders. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the Student Leaders program connects 300 high school juniors and seniors annually to employment, skills development and service through a paid summer internship. As part of the internship, local students work with YMCA Greater Richmond, engaging in leadership opportunities and garnering practical work and life experience.
Varina-Enon bridge lane to close for six months
Drivers who take the Varina Enon Bridge on I-295 will have to navigate with a reduced number of lanes for the next six months. The right lane on the southbound side of the bridge will close on Monday, July 22 for bridge maintenance and will remain closed for about half a year, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Despite concerns from Henrico officials and residents, Goochland Planning Commission advances Luck Stone proposal
Despite requests to the contrary from Henrico officials and residents, the Goochland County Planning Commission Thursday night considered – and then unanimously recommended for approval – plans from Luck Stone Corporation to expand operations at its Rockville quarry on the Henrico-Goochland line. The case next will be heard Sept. 3 by the Goochland Board of Supervisors, which holds final decision-making authority on it.
