Henrico Police will be offering free car seat safety checks Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to ensure that families are properly preparing vehicles for kids with car seats or boosters.

The safety checks will be offered at the Fairfield Area Library, 1401 North Laburnum Avenue. Registration is not required but is strongly encouraged. If registration is full, police officials also offer child safety-seat checks by appointment.

Although most parents and caregivers say they are confident that they’ve properly installed their child’s car seat, almost half (46%) of those seats actually are installed incorrectly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A properly installed car seat can reduce the risk of death for a child by 71%, according to police.
