A man was killed Sunday afternoon when a storm caused a large tree to crash down on top of his car in Henrico’s West End, according to Henrico Police.

When officers arrived to the scene of the incident in the 800 block of Maybeury Drive at about 4:48 p.m., they found the man inside the vehicle dead from the impact of the tree. The driver’s identity and age have not been released.

The crash will cause Maybeury Road between Avalon Drive and Edson Road to be closed for an extended period of time, police said. The Henrico Police Crash Team is now investigating the crash.

The storm brought a line of at-times violent wind and hail through the county’s West End, leaving leaves, branches and other debris all over roads and yards and briefly stalling traffic on I-64 when the interstate became coated with debris.
