Traveling Smithsonian exhibit coming to Union Presbyterian Seminary

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History is sending one of its exhibits to Union Presbyterian Seminary’s William Smith Morton Library in Richmond.

The traveling exhibition Exploring Human Origins: What Does It Mean to Be Human? will be at the library, at 3406 Chamberlayne Avenue, not far from the Henrico line, from Sept. 3 to Nov. 15.

“We are so excited that Union Presbyterian Seminary was selected to host this unique and fascinating exhibit,” said Seminary Exhibition Coordinator Chris Burton. “We have an impressive line-up of programs planned, with offerings for kids and adults.”

The exhibition uses interactive kiosks, hands-on displays, and videos to invite visitors of all ages to learn about the milestones in the evolutionary journey of becoming human. The goal of the exhibit is to foster a public conversation about the multiple perspectives of what it means to be human, including those of non-scientists.

The NMNH has also arranged a series of educational programs for the community outside of the exhibition. These include a science program, educator workshop, and community conversations, the exact dates for which will be set in October.

The exhibition is free and open to the public during normal library hours.
