For the second year in a row, Henrico County Public Schools has been named one of “America’s Best-In-State Employers” by Forbes magazine. The recognition is based on criteria such as working conditions, salary, diversity, and recommendations from within the state and from national industry and staff.

HCPS employs more than 7,000 people and serves almost 50,000 students. Every employee’s salary has increased by at least 13% in the past two years, and since 2012-13, teacher pay is up about 605 on average and all full-time employees have seen about a 49% bump in pay, according to officials. The system also has raised bus driver salaries to $25 per hour, while the minimum wage for support staff has increased to $15 per hour.

“We greatly value this award as we understand the critical role that all employees have in the success of our students,” said HCPS Superintendent Amy Cashwell. “We appreciate that each employee brings unique talents and perspectives that enrich our school community to create a brighter future for our students, so it’s terrific to be recognized for these efforts.”
