Kathryn (Kitty) Yeatts Davis died peacefully after a four-year battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, George Davis; her son, Philip Davis and his wife Shanna; three grandchildren, Lucy, Clark, and Piper Davis; and her brother, Archer Yeatts, III and his wife Elaine. Preceding her in death were her parents, Archer Yeatts, Jr. and Elinor Moore Yeatts.

Kitty was born in Danville, VA, and grew up in Chatham and Blacksburg before moving to Richmond in 1958. She and George were high school sweethearts, dated throughout college, and married in 1969 one week after graduating, she from Madison College with a degree in library science. Kitty earned a Masters in Education from VCU in 1989 and taught children’s literature in VCU’s School of Education for 16 years. During her teaching career she acquired more than 1700 children’s books, which she used with her lectures and then donated to VCU when she and George moved to a retirement community in 2020.

Kitty was an active member of River Road Church, Baptist, teaching Sunday school and serving on numerous boards and committees. Her special love was the Joyful Hearts women’s Bible study group, which she helped organize and led for 14 years. In 2021 she received the church’s Outstanding Christian Educator Award, acknowledging her many years of involvement in Christian education.

Kitty was a loving and supportive wife, a devoted mother, a proud mother-in-law, and an adoring grandmother (Yaya). To many she was a caring friend who had a special touch to say or write the perfect words to those who needed comforting. We will miss her sweet, soft voice.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 20, from 5-7 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home – Parham. There will be a memorial service at River Road Church, Baptist on Saturday, September 21, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service there will be a reception in the church’s Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to River Road Church, Baptist, 8000 River Road, Richmond, VA 23229, or to a charity of your choice.
