The Glen Allen 13-year-old Babe Ruth League all-star team will play for a World Series title Saturday at noon on its home field.

Glen Allen defeated Lutz, Florida 8-4 at RF&P Stadium at RF&P Park Friday morning in a semifinal game in the 13-year-old Babe Ruth League World Series, which Glen Allen Youth Athletic Association and Henrico County are hosting for the third consecutive year.

After a thrilling 2-1 comeback win Thursday against the other Florida team in the tournament (Altamonte Springs), Glen Allen gave itself a little early breathing room Friday. Lutz pushed across a run in the second inning, but the host team responded with three runs in the bottom of the third and three more in the fourth, before adding single runs in the fifth and sixth. Lutz scored three in the top of the sixth but by then the deficit was too great to overcome.

Trace Holt had the game’s biggest hit, a two-run double in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie and give his team a lead it would never relinquish. It was the fourth straight hit for the host team as part of a two-out rally that began when Christopher Kowtna singled to left, advanced to second on a single by Landon Allen and scored on a single by Reid Lutton.

Lutton had two of Glen Allen’s seven hits and also scored a run. Carter Burton, who delivered the walk-off single to win Thursday’s game, put Friday’s out of reach with a two-run single in the fourth to make it 5-1.

Glen Allen got four solid innings from starting pitcher Tommy Reilly, who allowed just three hits and one unearned run. Austin Nester encountered some trouble in the fifth, walking five and allowing three earned runs, but Christopher Hall finished with two innings of one-hit relief to shut the door on Lutz’s championship hopes.

Glen Allen has outscored its opponents 33-7 on its way to a perfect 5-0 record in the tournament. In the title game Saturday, it will face another undefeated team: 5-0 Oahui, Hawaii, the tournament’s third seed, which defeated second-seeded Easton Youth, Massachusetts 10-2 Thursday.

Admission to Saturday’s championship game is free.
