GRTC to host block party July 10 to celebrate expanded Henrico service
GRTC will host a block party at St. Joseph’s Villa in Northern Henrico July 10 to celebrate the launch of its new Route 1 extension service in the county. On June 30, GRTC and Henrico County partnered to extend GRTC Route 1 farther north, to Parham Road/Reynolds Community College.

Henrico dedicates its first Fall Line Trail section
Henrico County officials Tuesday celebrated the completion of a small, but significant, stretch of the Fall Line Trail in Lakeside. During a dedication ceremony in bright sunlight at Spring Park, officials officially cut the ribbon on a 1,400-foot section of the 12-foot-wide trail, which ultimately will connect Ashland to Petersburg along 43 winding miles.
Obituary – Charles R. Hickman Jr.
Charles R. Hickman, Jr., 87, of Henrico County passed away July 7, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 63 years, Janet Hickman; son, Charles R. Hickman, III (Connie); son, David W. Hickman (Debbie); daughter, Linda F. Crowder; grandson, David (Dane) W. Hickman; and grandson, Brian Crowder. He is survived by his sister, Virginia Hazelwood; daughter, Judith Overton (Herbie); son-in-law, Larry Crowder; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy), Shannon (Corey), Holly, Trent, Corey (Ashley) and Shelby; ten great grandchildren, Ethan, Aiden, Caden, Jayce, Asher, Aiyana, Kierstin, Charlie IV, Bodhi Cole and Atticus; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Charles was loved beyond measure by his family who were able to fulfill his last request to only be home in his final days. He is now at peace and with others he loved and missed dearly that preceded him. God be the Glory, welcoming him to his eternal home.

Free community testing for COVID-19 continues
For the week ending on Saturday, July 6, confirmed hospital admissions for COVID-19 in Virginia rose 20 percent from the previous week, though new admissions remain low. No deaths associated with COVID-19 were reported statewide during that time frame. COVID-19 wastewater levels in the Greater Richmond area remain, on average, below detection.
