Enrollment increase and real momentum
In Kansas, many colleges have had a decrease in enrollment, but this is not the case at Pittsburg State, according to the Vice President of Student Life and Enrollment Management, Karl Stumo. All American University’s choose a date either ten or twenty days into classes for their census, which is Sept. 16 for Pittsburg State. Enrollment numbers can change, but as of Aug. 16, enrollment numbers are looking toward a positive direction compared to 2023. In terms of how the University has done, Stumo stated, “Every year, we do our very best to improve, going to as many high schools and attending as many college fairs as we can. This year one of the biggest changes was with the expansion of the Great Gorilla Scholarship Program.”

This makes the games building up to the regular season even more important for this team.
Telus health offers new mental health services
Pittsburg State University students can now access 24/7 mental health services from anywhere through the third-party provider, Telus Health. In the years since the COVID-19 Pandemic, mental health has become an increasing concern for many individuals, particularly on college campuses. In a study conducted by the Mayo Clinic, nearly 44% of college students have reported symptoms of depression while nearly 15% have reported seriously considering suicide in the last year. “I think we need to remove the stigma for receiving help for mental health,” Associate Vice President of Inclusion & Belonging, Deatrea Rose said. “If you had a stomachache or a headache or you broke your arm, you would immediately go and seek medical attention. The same thing should be true for our mental stability.” With these problems coming to the forefront of both the national and local attention, Pittsburg State found a solution.
