    McFarland boys swim chasing after D2 championship after qualifying for state in all 11 events

    After another strong performance on Saturday, Feb. 10, the McFarland boys swim team are poised to make a run at the Division 2 State Championship.

    At the McFarland Sectional, the Spartans won sectional championships in seven events, qualified for state in all 11 events, broke six pool records and won the sectional title with 392 points.

    The 200-yard medley relay team of senior Luke Morrison, junior Preston Nygaard, junior Shane TeBeest and freshman Blake TeBeest finished in first place at 1 minute and 34.57 seconds for a new pool record.

    In the 200-yard freestyle relay, freshman Cale TeBeest, Nygaard, Morrison and senior Lyon Hall swam to a first-place finish at 1:26.98, a new pool record.

    The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Hall, Cale TeBeest, Blake TeBeest and Shane TeBeest scored a first-place finish at 3:09.20 for a new pool record.

    The Spartans had three swimmers qualify in the 200-yard individual medley relay with Blake TeBeest (1:56.39) taking first, Morrison (1:59.86) scoring sixth and Nygaard (2:02.45) taking eighth. Blake TeBeest’s time set a new pool record.

    Hall (46.41) won the 100-yard freestyle, while Morrison (48.94) scored third. Hall’s time set a new pool record.

    Blake TeBeest won the 100-yard backstroke in 50.91 and sophomore Nick Furst (54.88) also qualified for state with a third-place finish. Blake TeBeest’s time set a new pool record.

    In the 50-yard freestyle, Shane TeBeest (21.32) and Cale TeBeest (21.54) finished in first and second place. Shane TeBeest (52.58) and Cale TeBeest (52.72) took second and third in the 100-yard butterfly.

    Nygaard (58.90) finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke to qualify.

    Hall placed second in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:42.34, while senior Gavinn Vega (1:50.67) took fifth to qualify as well. Vega (5:04.11) also qualified in the 500-yard freestyle with a second-place finish.

    The 2024 Division 2 State Swim Championships will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 at Waukesha South High School. Last year, McFarland finished runner-up in Division 2 to Rhinelander.

    Team scores: McFarland 392, Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights 270, Edgewood 265, Baraboo 219, Stoughton 217, Monona Grove 215, DeForest 154, Milton 108, Mount Horeb 83, Platteville/Lancaster 67, Edgerton/Evansville 60.
