New conference, same results for the McFarland girls basketball team.
After winning the Rock Valley Conference title last year, the McFarland girls basketball team officially clinched the Badger Small Conference title with a 54-46 win over Reedsburg on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Reedsburg Area High School.
Senior Teagan Mallegni led the Spartans with 30 points, while senior Ava Dean scored 19 points. Senior Elise Freeman (4) and senior Brynn Kirch (1) also contributed. The Spartans hold a two-game lead over Edgewood with one conference game remaining.
McFarland is 18-5 overall, 13-0 in the Badger Small Conference and ranked fifth in the Wisconsin Coaches Basketball Association Division 2 rankings.
McFarland 66, Mount Horeb 44
On senior night, the McFarland girls basketball team had eight seniors make a basket in a 66-44 win over Mount Horeb on Thursday, Feb. 8 at McFarland High School.
Senior Hailey Testolin made five 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 15 points. Senior Ava Dean recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Teagan Mallegni also reached double figures with 10 points.
Senior Karmen Altfeather scored a season-high eight points, and senior Brynn Kirch grabbed seven rebounds and had six points. Senior Elise Freeman recorded four points, while senior Alana Wagner contributed three points.
Kyla Thorson, a team manager, was also able to score for the Spartans. With the help of her teammates and Mount Horeb, Thorson made a basket on a shot off the backboard, erupting the gymnasium in cheer.
Along with the eight seniors, junior Riley Bickelhaupt (4) and freshman Brooke DeShong (2) also contributed.
McFarland is 17-5 on the season and 12-0 in the Badger Small Conference.
