    McFarland girls basketball finishes the year undefeated in the Badger Small with a win against Portage

    The McFarland girls basketball team closed out the regular season with a perfect record in the Badger Small Conference, cruising to a 73-25 win over Portage to finish 14-0 on Thursday, Feb. 15 at Portage High School.

    All 11 players that suited up for the Spartans scored a basket with four players reaching double figures. Senior Hailey Testolin led McFarland with 12 points, making four 3-pointers.

    Senior Ava Dean shot 50% from the field, scored 11 points, collected eight rebounds and dished out five assists. Senior Teagan Mallegni also scored 11 points, while accumulating seven rebounds, four steals and three blocks.

    Senior Brynn Kirch made two 3’s, finishing the game with 10 points. Senior Alana Wagner scored a career-best eight points, shooting 80% from the field. Junior Kate Mender also scored a career-best six points.

    Freshman Charlie Lueder made both field-goal attempts, including a 3-pointer, to score five points. Junior Riley Bickelhaupt recorded four points and seven rebounds.

    Freshman Brooke DeShong and senior Karmen Altfeather both scored two points, while senior Elise Freeman had two points, seven rebounds and six steals.

    McFarland finishes the regular season with a record of 19-5.

    The Spartans are the No. 1 seed for the playoffs and will face the winner of Delavan-Darien/Mount Horeb on Friday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. in the regional semifinal at McFarland High School.

    The winner of that game will face the winner of Whitewater/Jefferson in the regional championship at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24.
