    McFarland boys hockey eliminated by Fond du Lac

    The McFarland boys hockey team could not overcome three goals scored in the first period by Fond du Lac Springs in a 5-1 playoff loss to the Ledgers on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the Blue Line Family Ice Center.

    Gabe Braun scored one minute and 50 seconds into the match for Fond du Lac Springs, assisted by Isaac Sabel to give the Ledgers an early lead.

    After Quinn McLaughlin scored for the Ledgers at the 5:28 mark, Jaiden Miesner made the score 3-0 with a goal, assisted by Jaxon Sabel and Austin Westergaard at the 12:32 mark.

    In the third period, the Ledgers scored their fourth goal of the game at the 1:45 mark with a shot from Braun, assisted by Westergaard and Preston Flood.

    McFarland junior Ty Paulios scored the Spartans’ lone goal at the 10:15 mark, assisted by senior Mason Pommerening to cut the lead to 4-1. Braun, however, scored his third goal of the game at the 11:25 mark, assisted by Isaac Sabel, to make the score 5-1.

    In net for McFarland, senior goaltender Raymond Wheaten recorded 39 saves for an 89% save rate. The Spartans finish the year with a record of 12-14.

    The seniors who will graduate from the roster are Dylan Snyder, Drew Snyder, Mason Pommerening, Ben Kopp, Vincent Babcock, Sean Pritchard, Jacob Stertz, Ben Bruno and Raymond Wheaten.
