    Two Rivers’ ‘Dog Days of Summer’ drive will collect donations for the Lakeshore Humane Society

    TWO RIVERS – Aug. 19-25, visitors and shoppers to Two Rivers Main Street businesses can help a local cause during a “Dog Days of Summer” drive.

    Throughout the week, businesses will be collecting donations for the Lakeshore Humane Society . People can donate coins, cash or needed shelter items like food, litter and blankets. In return, some participating businesses may offer a discount or special offer for those who donate. Offers will vary by business.

    Final days of the Aquatic Center: Sunday is the last day of the season at Manitowoc Family Aquatic Center

    What businesses are participating?

    The following businesses are collecting donations during the event:

    • 1st Anderson Real Estate
    • Cool City Cycles
    • Paper Crane Bookstore
    • Schroeder’s Department Store
    • Seeds N Beans
    • TR Christian Center Thrift Store
    • Wargin Agency
    • American Family
    • White Cap Insurance Agency
    • GJ’s Salon and Spa
    • Intertwined
    • The Read Apple
    • Two Rivers Main Street Office
    • Paczkowski Family Dental

    Restaurants: Kiel restaurant and its popular menu items, like the Dagger Burger, will soon be featured on a national program

    What items can be donated?

    Lakeshore Humane Society’s wish-list items include the following:

    • Clay Cat Litter non-scoopable and scoopable
    • Purina dry cat food
    • Purina dry kitten food
    • KMR kitten formula
    • Large Kongs
    • “he” liquid laundry detergent
    • Cat toys
    • Cat collars
    • Purina One dry dog food
    • Soft dog treats (Pup-Peroni)
    • Nylabones

    How will donations be used?

    Lakeshore Humane Society places more than 900 animals a year in forever homes. Donations will assist in the care of the animals and upkeep of the facilities.

    As well as raising funds for the care of animals, the LHS is undergoing a capital campaign to construct a new shelter building. So far, it has raised $1.8 million toward a $3.8 million goal. Some of the monetary donations will go toward that campaign.
