MANITOWOC – After watching "Wyatt Earp and The Cowboy War," a compelling Netflix documentary series about Wyatt Earp and the famous shootout at the O.K. Corral, I thought about a story I wrote a few years back about his possible ties to Manitowoc.
The story I wrote about Earp was one of my most-read stories for the month of September.
I’m glad readers found the topic as interesting as I do.
Here’s look at that — and my other top stories from September.
How a portrait of Wyatt Earp might have ended up at the Rahr-West Museum — and what may have happened to it.
The Netflix series on Wyatt Earp uses vivid reenactments about the feud between Earp and Ike Clanton in Tombstone, Arizona, in the early 1880s. It’s intriguing that Manitowoc has a small role in his story.
A book written about six years ago explores, in part, the idea that portraits of Wyatt and his first wife Urilla made their way from Illinois to Manitowoc. My story explores that possibility.
Readers may not have had much to say about their favorite place for french fries in the Lakeshore area, but they loved taking a gander at a story about the places me and my co-worker Alisa Schafer enjoy this salty side.
From Ryan’s on York to Time Out Sports Bar & Grill, we shared our faves. Yum!
Readers share memories of the Lakeshore Edgewater Plaza Mall.
For years, Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels told me the most frequent question he got was whether anything was happening with the crumbling mall site. Now, the city has found a developer, and the vacant building will come down any day.
We thought this was a good time to ask readers to share their favorite mall memories, and boy did you guys deliver!
A fun story to write … and I’m glad you enjoyed reading it, too!
