Readers share their favorite spots for chicken in Manitowoc County. Is yours on the list?

MANITOWOC – Lakeshore area residents have some strong opinions about where to find the best finger-lickin’ goodness in Manitowoc County.

A few weeks ago, we asked readers to share their favorite spots for chicken — whether fried, broasted, grilled or barbecued. We received accolades for not only local restaurants, but also grocery and convenience stores, which we did not expect.

And while Manitowoc folks seem to have a variety of favorites, Montana Rae’s Pub (formerly Tippy's), 1713 East St., Two Rivers, might just rule the roost.

Here’s what y’all had to say:

Kelly Jo and her crew made it a mission in 2018 to taste test broasted chicken at 10 local spots.

“Tippy’s (now Montana Rae’s Pub) has the best,” she wrote. “And that includes the price.”

Austin Gordon agreed.

“The broasted chicken at Montana Rae’s is the best in Manitowoc in my opinion,” he said. “It’s tender and juicy and delicious.”

Marc Birr also gave some love to Montana Rae’s.

“Anyone who suggests corporate chains like Kwik Trip over local restaurants that do it WAY better has some mandatory dinner nights out in their future,” he said.

That said, several readers did name Kwik Trip their favorite place for chicken, although they didn’t say why.

Late’s, Pizza Ranch, the Manitowoc Piggly Wiggly, Fork & Knife Restaurant, The Dugout Bar & Grill and Broken Plate Catering and Diner were also fan favorites.

Dawn Holschbach gave a shout-out to K-City Pub and Grill in Kellnersville.

“K-City has the best broasted chicken,” she wrote. “It’s tasty and juicy.”

Lori B. heads to The Dugout Bar & Grill for her chicken fix.

“Lightly coated, amazingly seasoned, cooked to perfection every time,” she said. “Four pieces of chicken with your choice of fries or cold potato salad (delicious) and coleslaw with a piece of buttered bread. It’s so good you can also get that chicken catered to events.”

Pam T. and her husband have different faves.

“Husband likes Fat Seagull,” she said. “I like the deli chicken at the Two Rivers and Manitowoc Piggly Wiggly. And Waverly Inn Pub and Pizzeria.”

Looks like there’s no need to put all your eggs in one basket when going out for a good chicken dinner in Manitowoc County. Which reader recommendation will you try next?
