    Introducing the Herald-Tribune 2024 All-Area Girls Track & Field Team

    At the end of each season, The Herald-Tribune selects All-Area teams honoring the best athletes for every sport. Coaches from Sarasota and Manatee County schools are sent nomination forms and are asked to nominate and rate their athletes as well as those from other teams. That data combined with The Herald-Tribune's research led to the selection of the All-Area teams.

    FIRST TEAM

    Aubri Antczak

    School: Sarasota

    Highlights: Antczak placed second in Region 4A-2 for the 3200 in a time of 11:21.91 before finishing 14th in the Class 4A meet. She won the district 4A-8 title and was second in the 1600 in the Sarasota County meet.

    Fa'leece Crawford

    School: Booker

    Year: Junior

    Highlights: Crawford took sixth in the 100 and 200 in Region 2A-3, third and fourth in the 200 and 100, respectively, in the district meet and was second in both in the Sarasota County meet.

    Michelle Croney

    School: Venice

    Year: Senior

    Highlights: Croney took third in the Region 4A-2 400 hurdles race in 1:05.52, won District 4A-8 and was second in the Sarasota County meet. She finished 12th at state. She also took fourth and fifth in the 100 hurdles at district and county, respectively.

    Addison Dempsey

    School: Cardinal Mooney Catholic

    Year: Senior

    Highlights: Dempsey won her first state title, claiming the Class 2A 3200 title in 10:35.87 and medaled with a seventh in the 1600 (5:07.43). She won the 3200 as regionals and districts as well.

    Ibre Edwards

    School: Booker

    Year: Junior

    Highlights: Edwards medaled in Class 2A, taking eighth in the 400 hurdles in a personal best 1:04.53, and placed 11th in the 100 hurdles. She swept first at the Region 2A-3, District 2A-11 and Sarasota County meets.

    Kyla Freddolino

    School: Venice

    Year: Junior

    Highlights: Freddolino took sixth place in Class 4A in the discus with a throw of 123 feet, 5 inches (37.62m). She placed second in Region 4A-2 and District 4A-8 discus.

    Indy Grajalez

    School: Sarasota

    Year: Junior

    Highlights: Grajalez placed fourth in the 1600 (5:15.39) in Region 4A-2 and seventh in the 3200 (11:29.97) before taking 13th in the 1600 in Class 4A. She won the county 800 title and took third in the 1600 and 3200 at district.

    Riley Greene

    School: Cardinal Mooney Catholic

    Year: Junior

    Highlights: Greene placed second in the shotput (10.22m/33-6.5) and fourth in the discus (29.76m/97-8) in the Region 2A-3 meet. She won both in District 2A-11 and was third for both in the Sarasota County meet. She placed 13th in the shotput at state.

    Malia Hambrick

    School: North Port

    Highlights: Hambrick finished sixth in Class 4A in the 800 in 2:14.33 after taking third in Region 4A-2 and second in Region 4A-8 and third in the Sarasota County meet.

    Jasmin Hornes

    School: Palmetto

    Year: Senior

    Highlights: Hornes took second in the 100 (12.15) and 200 (25.00) at the Region 3A-3 meet. She was first in the 100, second in the 200, and fourth in the long jump at the district meet and won both sprints at the Manatee County meet.

    Grace Hroncich

    School: Cardinal Mooney Catholic

    Highlights: The pole vaulter took first place at the region, District 2A-11 (3.00m/9-10) and Sarasota County (3.00m/9-10) meets before finishing ninth at state.

    Rylie Jackson

    School: Parrish Community

    Year: Junior

    Highlights: Jackson placed fifth in the Class 3A triple jump in a personal best 37 feet, 7.75 inches (11.47m) after taking fourth in the event in Region 3A-3 and winning it in District 3A-9.

    Azharia Jones

    School: Southeast

    Year: Senior

    Highlights: Jones took fourth in the 100 (12.32) and third in the 200 (25.38) at the Region 3A-3 meet along with seventh in the long jump (16-08.75). She won the 100 and long jump at district and was second in the 200.

    Susan Lowther

    School: Riverview

    Year: Senior

    Highlights: Lowther won gold medals in the discus, throwing it a personal best 149 feet, 1 inch, and in the shotput with a heave of 43 feet, 6 ½ inches in Class 4A. She dominated both events all season, sweeping both events in every meet but one early in the season.

    Mackenzie Maclean

    School: Venice

    Year: Junior

    Highlights: Maclean was the Sarasota County 1600 champion and set a personal best in placing second in District 4A-8 in a personal best of 5:15.93 before placing eighth at regionals.

    Corin Mohammadbhoy

    School: Braden River

    Year: Senior

    Highlights: Mohammadbhoy won the Manatee County triple jump and long jump titles and took second in the high jump and fourth in the triple jump at districts.

    Sullivan Morris

    School: Parrish Community

    Year: Senior

    Highlights: Morris finished sixth in Region 3A-3 in the 800 in 2:20.33 after winning the district title and won up 16th at state. She holds the school record in the 3200, 1600, and 800.

    Jakai Peterson

    School: Booker

    Year: Senior

    Highlights: Peterson took first in Region 2A-3 in the 400 in 57.36 and second in the long jump (5.33m, 17-6) while helping the 4x100 and 4x400 to titles. She also won the 400 at the district and county meets and won the district long jump title (5.53m/18-1.75).

    Jada Phillips

    School: Braden River

    Year: Senior

    Highlights: Phillips took second in Region 2A-3 in the javelin with a personal best of 123-2.75 (37.56m) and won it in the district and Manatee County meets. She finished 15th in Class 3A.

    Alana Price

    School: Parrish Community

    Year: Freshman

    Highlights: Price was the District 3A-9 champion in the 100, 200, and second in the 4x100. She holds all the sprint records for Parrish as a freshman. She was fifth in the 100 and 200 at regional and helped the 4x100 and 4x400 teams reach state.

    Atarah Robinson

    School: Venice

    Highlights: Robinson capped her season with a fifth-place finish at state in the 800 in 2:13.97. She was fourth in the region after winning the district and Sarasota County titles.

    Rosemary Selke

    School: Cardinal Mooney Catholic

    Year: Junior

    Highlights: Selke placed second in Region 2A-3 in the 800 (2:24.97) before finishing 13th at state. She also won the district title in 2:33.43.

    Sanii Shield

    School: Bayshore

    Year: Freshman

    Highlights: Shield took second in the 100 (12.29) and 200 (25.25) in District 2A-11 in personal bests and finished third in the 200 and seventh in the 100 in Region 2A-3.

    Terrietta Smith

    School: Booker

    Year: Senior

    Highlights: Smith took fifth place in Class 2A in the 100 in 12.22 seconds and was ninth in the 200 in 25.04. She swept both events at the region, district, and Sarasota County meets and helped the 4x100 relay win at all three of those meets.

    COACH OF THE YEAR

    Name: Sheldon Cantrell

    School: Booker

    Highlights: Booker placed third in the Sarasota County meet, finished third in District 2A-11 before taking home the runner-up trophy in Region 2A-3 with 92 points. The Tornadoes had four individuals and a relay qualify for state and came home with two medals.
