Actress Lynda Carter, best known for the original Wonder Woman TV series of the 1970s, turns 73. Director Patty Jenkins, who rebooted the Wonder Woman franchise for the feature film world, turns 53 on the very same day.

    A Closer Look

Lynda Carter viewed her experience on the initial Wonder Woman TV show as "a phenomenon unto itself."

"I enjoyed doing the series," she said, "...especially the stunts, and that twinkle-in-your-eye humor. We never made fun of anything, but we had fun with the material."

"I'm grateful for everything that the show has allowed me to do as a performer;" she said. "Wonder Woman gave me my, start. She was the big hand-up that helped me to realize all of my dreams, and all of the things that have happened, subsequently, with my career [singing, TV movies, videos, a Maybelline cosmetics contract]. I was young and somewhat naive back then. Yet what I learned was substantial, and it was all because of Wonder Woman."

Director Patty Jenkins brought Wonder Woman to the big screen, first with Wonder Woman (2017) starring Gale Godat, followed by Wonder Woman '84 (2020), also starring Godat, and featuring Lynda Carter in a cameo.

The first movie was set during World War I, which is different from the initial season of the TV series. As with the original comic book, the 1970s TV show was set in World War II.

The second film was released in the middle of the pandemic and did not fare so well with critics or the box office.

A third Wonder Woman motion picture had originally been planned, without Jenkins directing. However, those plans have since been unclear as director James Gunn is now supervising the DC Comics film franchise. Also, too, a new Wonder Woman TV series, Paradise Lost, may be in development.

In the meantime, Happy Birthday Lynda Carter and Patty Jenkins.
