Chad Everett, who died from lung cancer in 2012, initially found fame as Dr. Joe Gannon on the popular television series, Medical Center (CBS, 1969-1976). However, the handsome actor made countless other appearances on TV, as well as the big-screen.

    A Closer Look

Chad Everett's first notable TV role surfaced an episode of the detective series Surfside 6 (ABC, 1960-1962).

In the episode, "High Tide," which premiered October 10, 1960, a beautiful young woman visits with detectives played by Troy Donahue, and Van Williams, among others. The woman mesmerizes the men and, in the process, a few arguements and untimely deaths transpire. Everett portrayed Don Whittman in the show.

Everett's initial significant film performance arrived shortly after with the groundbreaking movie, Claudelle Inglish. Here, he plays a poor dirt farmer who captures the attention of a defiant Southern girl played by Diane McBain (a series regular from Surfside 6).

The future Dr. Gannon subsequently portrayed a deputy in the short-lived TV Western, The Dakotas (ABC, 1963), which featured Jack Elam as a fellow lawman.

In 1966, Everett took back to the big screen with The Singing Nun, which starred Debbie Reynolds and Agnes Moorehead (then starring on TV's Bewitched as Elizabeth Montgomery's feisty supernatural mother).

Two years later, Everett performed again on the big screen, this time in The Impossible Years, starring opposite Christina Ferra, David Niven, Lola Albright (of TV's Peter Gunn fame), and Ozzie Nelson, and more.

Following several other TV and movie appearances, Everett received his big-break as Dr. Gannon on the innovative medical drama, Medical Center, alongside costar James Daly (father to actors Tyne Daly, later of Cagney & Lacy, and Tim Daly, later of the Wings sitcom).

    More Non-Dr. Gannon Parts

Before and after Medical Center, Chad Everett also appeared in several other TV shows and theatrical motion pictures. His movies include Airplane II: The Sequel, and Star Command, while he made TV guest star appearnces on Centennial, Hagen, Redigo, Melrose Place, The Nanny, Touched by an Angel, Diagnosis: Murder, Caroline in the City, Cybill, Murder, She Wrote, The Red Skelton Show, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Route 66, and more.

    Conclusion

Chad Everett, one of the last contracted actor of the studio system, amassed an impressive list of credits beyond playing Dr. Gannon on Medical Center.
