It's been seven years since the tragic death of beloved character actress and voiceover artist Patti Deutsch, who was best known for appearances on TV's Laugh-In and Match Game (1973). She died of cancer on July 26, 2017. She lived in Los Angeles, and this is her story.

    A Closer Look

Patti Deutsch (who's surname translates to "German" in German) was born on December 16, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She attended Bennington College, Carnegie Mellon, TX Austin, and USC, all within a four-year-period.

When she was just started out, Deutsch was a member of the comedy troupe, The ACE Trucking Company, which made frequent appearances on Tom Jones' variety show, This Is Tom Jones in the early 1970s.

Deutsch and her trademark nasel voice joined NBC’s Laugh-In for its sixth and final season (1972-73) and had a regular role on the short-lived NBC comedy Grandpa Goes to Washington, starring Jack Albertson.

Around that time, Deutsch became known for her odd, comical answers during several appearances on TV's popular Match Game game show.

    Beyond Television

Her addition to her television work, Patti Deutsch appeared in movies such as Mr. Mom (1983), Tarzan (1999), and The Emperor's New Groove (2000). She also did radio ads for M&M Meatshops in Canada (circa December 2004)

A lifelong Democrat, Patti Deutsch was married to comedy writer Donald Ross, hHad three children; Lee Sachnoff, Max Ross and daughter Alexis Hill.

    Lasting Impression

Patti Deutsch was the rare kind of character actress that is rarely seen in Hollywood today. She was married to comedy writer Donald Ross, with whom she had three children (Lee Sachnoff, Max Ross and daughter Alexis Hill).
