Good Kids - Junction City High School culinary students shine in summer school
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - We’re highlighting Geary County ‘Good Kids’ who are shining in summer school through culinary cleanliness. 10 JCHS culinary students were recently awarded the ‘ServSafe’ Food handler certification for their work in the classroom during the month of june. These Bluejays opted to take an elective consumer science and culinary class, and they received 75% or better on the food-handler exam. It’s a program designed to teach safe food handling practice to food-service employees.
Freedom Fest kicks off in Junction City over the holiday weekend
JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) - If you’re looking for some fun 4th of July activities Junction City is hosting its Freedom Fest again this year. Activities kick off in Heritage Park with food trucks, local vendors, a carnival, and live music. Tomorrow they will start with a freedom run then go into the parade followed by a veterans ceremony, helicopter rides, a dog show, and ending the night with a firework show. This event will attract many from all over.

Brigade beat Baldwin City Blues by 10
The Junction City Brigade beat the Baldwin City Blues 17-7 last night at Rathert Field. With the win, the Brigade’s record improves to 11-7 on the year. Junction City is on the road tonight and will face the Blues again, but tonight in Baldwin City.
Funk’s running future is bright
Someone find the crystal ball that features the Hillsboro High girls 3,200-meter relay. Their future, you see, is as bright as a sterling Kansas sunset in June. “The 4×8 team had a really great season this year,” incoming junior Quinlyn Funk said. “Our usual order was (2023-24) sophomore Jaidyn Frantz, her split was a 2:40. I ran second and my split was a 2:31. Freshman Riley Richert ran third with a split of 2:33. Sophomore Addison Jost finished for us running a 2:25. Our final time was 10:13 which was another personal best.”
Potential Spin City renovations receive City attention
The cost of renovating Spin City with all of the possible additions to the project would total just under $2 million. The base fee for the project would total $1.5 million with engineering fees another $165,000. Other additions could range from landscaping to parking lot and drainage upgrades. Code compliance issues would need to be addressed.
City makes appointment to the EDC
The Junction City Commission has appointed Steve Roesler to a seat on the Economic Development Commission. He has been appointed to fill the final six months of an unexpired term and then to a full three-year term. Roesler succeeds Graham Foust who recently resigned following his retirement from KS StateBank.
