Listeria Outbreak Reaches New York State, Hospitalizes 7 People
A listeria outbreak linked to deli meats has sickened at least seven people in New York. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating over two dozen reported illnesses across 12 states. As of Friday, 28 people have been sickened and hospitalized, with the most cases reported in New York state, with 7 people hospitalized. Two deaths have been reported, one in New Jersey and another in Illinois. The first case was reported May 29, and the most recent illness connected to the outbreak was reported July 5. The patients range in age from 32-94.

Zion Episcopal Strawberry Festival postponed to September
ROME — The annual Strawberry Festival at the Zion Episcopal Church has been postponed to Saturday, Sept. 7, following the tornado in Rome, according to church officials. The strawberry festival is typically held in conjunction with Honor America Days, which have also been postponed. The festival was originally scheduled for this Saturday, July 27. The Zion Episcopal Church is located at 140 W. Liberty St.
Rome residents can soon apply for money from $1 million-plus recovery fund
Rome, N.Y. — Rome residents harmed by severe thunderstorms and a tornado that plowed through the city last week can soon apply to a recovery fund, officials said. About $175,000 has already been raised for the Rome Victims Recovery Fund, according to Anthony Picente Jr., the Oneida County executive. The county plans to contribute $1 million, he said.
Acquitted Arson Suspect Sues Fire Department
A woman who was acquitted of arson charges last year for a fire that occurred in 2022, has filed suit against the Binghamton Fire Department and several law enforcement agencies that she claims were responsible for her malicious prosecution and fourteen months of incarceration. Marquetta James filed suit in US District Court for the Northern District of New York naming six entities and seven named individuals as defendants.
