Fresh fruit, Mexican style, set for Waterfront Blues Fest

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Ray Medina uses watermelons he gets from Hermiston for his family business, Jugos Y Frutas Flores, because it is “one of the best watermelons in the nation, I would say, worldwide.”

They also locally source strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, bananas and use them all in smoothies.

“We make it with a fresh fruit and we put a little bit Mexican style, like a Tajin, Chamoy, and it’s so nice. It’s all refreshing,” he said.

Medina and his family moved from Puebla, Mexico to the United States in the early 2000’s. First they lived in California before relocating to Oregon and opening a business in Portland in 2008.

The family runs Jugos Y Frutas Flores (Juices and Fruits Flowers), which serves Mexican culture in an all-natural way with fresh-cut fruits, juices and smoothies.

For the first time this year, the Medina family will have a booth at the Waterfront Blues Fest , offering their tasty treats all four days.

The past few years, during and since the pandemic, has been hard, he said, but it’s coming back.

“We like the community. We like the support. We like to show the community this is who we are.”

Jugos Y Frutas Flores will be open during the Waterfront Blues Festival at Tom McCall Waterfront Park and they’re also at the Skidmore Market each weekend.
