HERMITAGE, Pa. (WKBN) – A new food pantry affiliated with the Mercer County Food Bank is opening in Hermitage.

The pantry is in collaboration with Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene. It will offer shelf-stable foods, produce and meat.

“The opening of this food pantry is part of the food bank’s strategic plan to provide access to food to neighbors in underserved areas of Mercer County,” said Rebecca Page, executive Ddrector of the Mercer County Food Bank. “For three years, we have been operating our Mobile Pantry program in Hermitage to help fill the needs of area residents, and the partnership with Gentle Shepherd will help better meet the needs of our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.”

The first distribution will be Aug. 15 from 4-6 p.m. with a ribbon cutting scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The later hours are set to accommodate people who aren’t available in the morning hours.

If you need food assistance, sign-ups for the pantry will be held on Wednesday, July 24 from 7-9 p.m. at Gentle Shepherd Church, 3480 Shenango Valley Fwy, Hermitage. To check eligibility or any questions regarding the food pantry, please contact Bailey Shepard, Mercer County Food Bank, Agency Relations and Programs Manager at 724-981-0353 ext. 105.
