Report: Retail Space Demand, Rates High Across Nation, Southern California
National retail space uptake trends are playing out in Southern California, where vacancy rates are low and landlords are trying to entice higher end tenants and holding firm in most rental negotiations. A recently released second quarter retail report from JLL states that across the country, tenants are competing for limited retail space, waiting for corporate downsizing amid companies like Walgreens and Family Dollar to free up more brick and mortar locations. Retail net absorption increased by 75 percent compared to the previous quarter as businesses set up shop in community centers, lifestyle centers and Class C malls nationwide. Most new leases came from quick-serve restaurants like Wingstop and Jersey Mike’s.
