Fears for safety at Mike Durfee State Prison
SIOUX FALLS, S.D (KELO) — Emailed statements from the South Dakota Department of Corrections have briefly described violence at Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield on July 9 and 10. “Several” inmates fighting each other on the first day resulted in minor injuries to staff as well as non-life-threatening injuries to six inmates, and there was another fight “with a few inmates” on the following day, according to statements from the DOC.
Aberdeen, SD aerial & ground spray for mosquitoes scheduled for July 15th & 16th
ABERDEEN, S.D. (Press Release) The Mosquito Control division of the City of Aberdeen will be conducting an aerial application for Mosquitoes on Monday, July 15th between the hours of 8:00 PM and 12:00 AM. Mosquito Control will also be conducting a city-wide ground spray for mosquitoes on Tuesday, July 16th between the hours of 8:30 PM and 12:30 AM.
McDonald’s returns to 24-hour service at some Sioux Falls locations
Around-the-clock McDonald’s hours are back. The restaurant has returned to 24-hour days Tuesday through Saturday at two Sioux Falls locations: 3200 S. Minnesota Ave. and 2416 W. 12th St. It’s the first time since 2020 for McDonald’s continual hours after they were discontinued during the COVID-19 pandemic.

City of Sturgis readies itself for rally
STURGIS S.D. (KELO) — With the Sturgis Rally less than a month away, the city of Sturgis is full speed ahead on its preparations. The 84th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally runs Friday, Aug. 2 through Sunday, Aug. 11. City Commission to hear Nuisance Abetment Appeal
The Madison City Commission will meet for their regular scheduled meeting tonight. Among the agenda items will be the approval of a Joint Powers Agreement for Police Assistance between the Madison Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The Commission will also consider approval of resolutions for Egan Avenue drinking water improvements, and Egan Avenue clean water improvements, as well as change orders for Trojan Village Street Construction and Extension of Washington Avenue and Division Avenue. SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – A possible mountain lion spotting near the Tea Area high school has been confirmed to be a deer instead, according to officials. Earlier on Monday, Dr. Jennifer Nebelsick Lowery said a mountain lion was spotted “passing through the conservation area west of the high school.” After 4:15 p.m., an update from Nebelsick Lowery said “the review of footage and area indicates there is no mountain lion.”
