Triumph Motorcycles has made history on the closing Sunday of the Sturgis Rally when veteran flat track racer “Slammin’ Sammy” Halbert won the inaugural American Flat Track AdventureTrackers race during the class debut at the Sturgis TT run through the middle of town. Fittingly, the very first Sturgis Rally was actually a race held on August 14, 1938, with 9 competitors. Fast forward to August 11th, 2024, where 9 racers once again lineup on the starting grid of a new race. Hot on Halbert's heels was the five-time World Enduro Champion, Iván Cervantes, cementing Triumph’s moment in history.

Man killed in single motorcycle crash near Deadwood
DEADWOOD, S.D. (KOTA) - A 68-year-old man died in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon, August 11. It happened two miles south of Deadwood. Larry Vincent Koneczny, driving a 2001 Harley Davidson, was traveling north on US 385 near mile marker 120 when he failed to negotiate the curve and went off the road to the right. The vehicle tripped and rolled, separating the driver from the motorcycle.
41-year-old man sentenced to 25 years for Rapid City rape
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) — A man was sentenced to 25 years in the penitentiary for forcible rape of a woman in March 2023. Timothy King, 41, of Manderson in Oglala Lakota County, pled guilty of second-degree rape in January 2024, according to the Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Office. The Canova Gang and Dell Rapids PBR both moved on to the quarterfinals of the Class B State Amateur Baseball tournament, after posting 2nd round wins on Tuesday night. The City of Brookings Regional Landfill will host the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Event from 8 a.m. to 12 noon in the Dacotah Bank Center parking lot.
