Three years after breaking ground, the long-anticipated, 18-acre St. Regis Longboat Key Resort is opening on Wednesday, Aug. 14. After it opens, the public can access the St. Regis spa, which has a snow shower (seriously!) and any one of its seven restaurants and bars. But there won't be any day passes to enjoy the pools, which include a winding river, a resort swimming pool, a serenity pool and a fully stocked saltwater lagoon teeming with tropical wildlife. Access to those amenities will require a membership that can be purchased online, unless you’re checking into the hotel for a luxurious stay.
Florida man arrested, accused of making threats against Trump, Vance on social media
A Florida man accused of making threats against former President Donald Trump, U.S. Sen. JD Vance and their families on social media was arrested on Friday, police said. The Jupiter Police Department said in a news release that officers arrested Michael W. Wiseman on charges of written threats to kill. He was taken into custody without incident and lodged in Palm Beach County Jail, according to Jupiter police Maj. Don Hennessy. Hernando County Crime Stoppers offers reward for information on fugitive
BROOKSVILLE, Florida — Hernando County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to the location and arrest of a fugitive. Travis Jeffrey Cummings, a 33-year-old from Brooksville, Florida, is wanted for failure to appear in court on multiple charges, including possession of cocaine, driving with a suspended license (second offense), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams), and no motor vehicle registration. There is no bond for any of the charges, according to a press release from Hernando County Crime Stoppers.

Officials reluctant to force couple to remove protective fence
Officials in The Villages can’t seem to find an answer as a couple in The Villages fights to keep their protective fence. Peter and Nancy Blackmore of the Village of Caroline erected the stockade fence more than a decade ago on The Villages’ eastern front. Their home backs up to Cherry Lake Road. At first, they hoped to block out noise from traffic. They added “K-9 on Duty,” signs to deter potential foot traffic from wandering in from the increasingly busy roadway.
