    Out and About: Chamber to host Taste of Harbor Towns Saturday

    Taste of Harbor Towns

    TV celebrity chef Vic Moea, also known as “Vic Vegas,” will serve as both the host and a judge for the Perquimans Chamber of Commerce’s “Taste of Harbor Towns” cooking competition at American Legion Post 126 at 113 Academy St., Hertford, today at 10 a.m. Tickets for attendees are $15, $10 for kids ages 12-5, and free for kids younger than 5.     Rotary offers tax help

    The Hertford Rotary Club continues offering free tax help to low-income, elderly and disabled taxpayers through the IRS’ Volunteers in Tax Assistance program. Appointments are available in the auditorium at the Perquimans County Emergency Management Center at 159 Creek Drive, Hertford, Tuesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

    Alzheimer’s support

    The Alzheimer-Dementia Support Group for caregivers and family members will meet at Hertford United Methodist Church, 200 Dobbs St., Hertford, Monday, at 1 p.m. Contact: 252-333-7774 or 252-404-7090.

    Library programs

    The Perquimans County Library will host a Sensory Storytime Monday at 4 p.m. and the Page Turners Book Club will discuss “Ordinary Grace” by William Kent Krueger Wednesday at 3 p.m.

    Perquimans Dems

    The Perquimans Democratic Party will hold its County Convention at the Perquimans County Courthouse Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. A number of speakers are scheduled.

    Community yard sale

    The New Hope United Women in Faith will hold a community yard sale at 2098 New Hope Road, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Outside spaces are $10; inside spaces are $15. Tables and chairs are $10. The deadline to register is March 30. The rain date will be April 13. Contact: 264-3387 or 264-3923.

    Delta scholarship

    The Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is offering a $500 scholarship to a female junior/senior college student majoring in education who lives in one of the following counties: Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Pasquotank, Perquimans, or Tyrrell. Applicants must have been accepted into the teacher education program and be a college junior or senior. Applications are available by calling Claudia C.
