HERTFORD — The N.C. Highway Patrol is asking the public’s help identifying the driver of a vehicle following a hit-and-run collision in Hertford that killed a pedestrian Sunday night.

Trooper C. Anderson said the body of Cecil Beasley Jr., 61, of Hertford, was discovered by a passing motorist on West Grubb Street near Don Juan Road, just outside Hertford, at 6:15 a.m. Monday.

Two witnesses said they saw Beasley walking in a northwesterly direction on West Grubb Street around 9 p.m., Anderson said. At the time, Beasley was approximately 50 to 100 feet from where his body was later found off the roadway.

“That leads us to believe the collision occurred shortly after” he was last seen, Anderson said.

No evidence from the vehicle that struck Beasley was found at the scene, he said.

Anderson asked that anyone with any information related to the fatal collision call the N.C. Highway Patrol Office in Elizabeth City at (252) 340-8240.
