Man killed in Hesperia solo-car wreck

A man died in a rollover crash in a Hesperia neighborhood on Monday afternoon, local authorities said.

Gerardo Cruz, 54, of Los Angeles was killed in the 4 p.m. crash in the 11100 block of E Avenue, near Peach Avenue, according to San Bernardino County coroner's records.

He was at the wheel of a 2001 Honda Accord heading east on E Avenue "and drove off the south roadway edge," according to a statement issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

"The Honda landed on its roof on a nearby residential property," deputies stated.

First-responders arrived to find the driver "partially ejected" from the car, according to the statement. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation by deputies from the sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team.
