Cameron Park Zoo mourns death of beloved Southern White Rhinoceros
WACO, Texas — The Cameron Park Zoo in Waco is mourning the loss of one of its longtime residents, Jabba the Southern White Rhino. Jabba was born at Lion Country Safari, Inc. in Florida on Feb. 25, 1981, said the zoo. He reportedly died at the age of 43, being one of the oldest males of his species in any zoo worldwide, said the Cameron Park Zoo.

WACO, Texas — The Waco Animal Shelter is partnering with BISSELL Pet Foundation and Cathy Bissell for the Empty The Shelters National Adoption Event, offering free adoptions for dogs and cats over one-year-old through July 31.Puppies and kittens under one-year-old are available for adoption for $50. This opportunity includes spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, and vaccines, according to the City of Waco Public Information Office.Prospective pet owners can view adoptable animals online at HumaneSocietyCentralTexas.org/Adopt or visit the shelter in person at 2032 Circle Road any day of the week to find their new best friend.

WACO, Texas — The Waco Animal Shelter is calling on local residents to donate summer items to keep shelter dogs cool as temperatures stay in the triple digits. The shelter is asking for an array of items including kiddie pools for the dogs to cool off in, shelf-stable wet food to make "pupsicles", frisbees and Benebone-type chew toys.
