Former DOL employee to serve 20 months for pandemic fraud scheme
A former state employee will serve 20 months in prison for his role in a pandemic unemployment fraud scheme. Carl J. DiVeglia III, 36, of Albany, previously pled guilty to abusing his position with the New York State Department of Labor to obtain more than $1.6 million in unemployment insurance benefits.

Costco Submits Plans For Route 17 Site Of Shuttered Stop & Shop In Paramus, Mayor Says
On Thursday, Aug. 22, Paramus Mayor Chris DiPiazza announced Costco submitted plans for the site. Stop & Shop shuttered in 2022 while Kmart closed in 2021. Adams admin looking for housing on city owned property
Mayor Eric Adams is trying to find more areas to build housing with New York City in the midst of a severe housing shortage. Adams signed an executive order that mandates all city agencies review and evaluate city owned land for potential housing development, whether it be under utilized lots, garages or buildings. Adams says if there’s any land within the city’s control that has even the remotest potential to develop affordable housing, his administration will take action. This is one of a number of steps the mayor is taking to address the sever housing shortage that has led to a one-point-four percent rental vacancy rate in the city.
