988 mental health crisis line celebrates 2nd anniversary
The country’s new 988 mental health response system turns two years old this month and a new report praised California’s implementation while calling for more investment. The report from the nonprofit mental health advocacy organization Inseparable showed California needs a total of about 400 mobile response teams, which dispatch a mental health professional and often a peer counselor, instead of police.

Riverside police seize large quantity of illegal fireworks
Authorities have seized about 1,000 pounds of illegal fireworks in Riverside, city officials announced Tuesday. Vincent Lozano III, 23, of Riverside, was arrested June 20 at his home in the 5800 block of Clifton Avenue in Riverside’s Hillside neighborhood and later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for possession dangerous fireworks, possession of destructive devices and weapons violations, according to the city’s announcement. Lozano was also suspected of child endangerment because the illegal fireworks were accessible to children living at the home. He was released the next day on $35,000 bail.

Two Romanian nationals have been charged with hate crimes for posing as United States immigration agents while targeting Hispanic victims across Orange County whom they believed are undocumented immigrants fearful of deportation to steal their cash and debit cards. The men are accused of wearing fake law enforcement badges around their necks while they spoke to their victims in Spanish and threatened to have them deported if they refused to hand over money and debit cards. They had a gun in their car during at least one of the robberies.
Azusa inaugurates operation of its newest wind energy turbines
On June 19, the City of Azusa held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the operation of eight new wind turbines in North Palm Springs, expanding the city’s current clean energy capacity. The Mesa RP30 Wind Energy Center will generate up to 30-megawatts (MW) of wind power, supplying approximately half of Azusa’s energy needs under a 25-year agreement with renewable energy company, Brookfield Renewable. These new turbines, replacing over 400 older turbines with advanced Vestas models, are taller and more efficient, with longer blades that increase electricity production even in low wind conditions.

Police seek suspects after 3 armed robberies Thursday in Pasadena
Police sought at least three men suspected of three separate armed robberies that occurred Thursday in Pasadena, according to published reports. At 10:20 a.m. two thieves, one of whom was armed with a handgun, robbed a 54-year-old man depositing cash at an ATM in the 3500 block of East Foothill Boulevard before fleeing in a getaway car driven by a third suspect.
