Corona to celebrate July 4th with annual parade, fireworks
The City of Corona Independence Day Celebration returns with the annual Main Street USA Parade, entertainment at Santana Park, and a fireworks show Thursday. Corona’s Main Street USA Independence Day Parade, a non-competitive parade which provides entertainment and community spirit,starts at 9 a.m. Drawing more than 4,000 families, friends, and neighbors, the parade takes place on Main Street from Ontario Avenue to Olive Street.
Mosquito spraying scheduled next week for Basset, Monterey Park
Trucks spraying insecticide will roll through parts of Basset and Monterey Park, the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District announced Wednesday. The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District has scheduled “Ultra-Low Volume … truck-mounted adulticide treatments” in response to the increase in mosquitoes and risk of mosquito-borne diseases in Bassett and Monterey Park, according to the district. The insecticide is intended for flying adult mosquitoes that may carry West Nile virus.
LA County health department: Bacteria make ocean water unsafe
County health officials warned beachgoers Tuesday to stay dry and avoid swimming, surfing and playing in high-bacteria ocean water at 17 LA-area locations. Metro, KCRW to present 2 summer nights of music at Union Station
KCRW and Metro Art will team up July 20 and 27 for two nights of music from 6 to 10 p.m. in downtown Los Angeles, Union Station officials announced Tuesday. KCRW DJs Jeremy Sole and Chris Douridas will perform sets for the first event on July 20, while the following Saturday features a performance by sibling-led LA-based jazz-folk band The South Hill Experiment “amplified by KCRW DJs Raul Campos and SiLVA,” according to event organizers. The music events will have pop-up bars serving light refreshments and alcohol and areas for dancing.
OC’s only children’s advocacy center receives re-accreditation, expands services
Orange County’s Child Abuse Services Team (CAST) is once again nationally recognized as a Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) through its renewed accreditation by the National Children’s Alliance (NCA). The organization also awarded CAST with accreditation under the optional Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC) and Physical Abuse Standards.

Riverside police seize large quantity of illegal fireworks
Authorities have seized about 1,000 pounds of illegal fireworks in Riverside, city officials announced Tuesday. Vincent Lozano III, 23, of Riverside, was arrested June 20 at his home in the 5800 block of Clifton Avenue in Riverside’s Hillside neighborhood and later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for possession dangerous fireworks, possession of destructive devices and weapons violations, according to the city’s announcement. Lozano was also suspected of child endangerment because the illegal fireworks were accessible to children living at the home. He was released the next day on $35,000 bail.

2 Romanian nationals posing as ICE agents targeted Hispanics in OC robberies
Two Romanian nationals have been charged with hate crimes for posing as United States immigration agents while targeting Hispanic victims across Orange County whom they believed are undocumented immigrants fearful of deportation to steal their cash and debit cards. The men are accused of wearing fake law enforcement badges around their necks while they spoke to their victims in Spanish and threatened to have them deported if they refused to hand over money and debit cards. They had a gun in their car during at least one of the robberies.
Azusa inaugurates operation of its newest wind energy turbines
On June 19, the City of Azusa held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the operation of eight new wind turbines in North Palm Springs, expanding the city’s current clean energy capacity. The Mesa RP30 Wind Energy Center will generate up to 30-megawatts (MW) of wind power, supplying approximately half of Azusa’s energy needs under a 25-year agreement with renewable energy company, Brookfield Renewable. These new turbines, replacing over 400 older turbines with advanced Vestas models, are taller and more efficient, with longer blades that increase electricity production even in low wind conditions.
