Hibbing VFW edges Rock Ridge in Game 2, 4-3

VIRGINIA—Riccio, Vessel and Kian Menara combined on a three-hitter as Post 1221 swept the doubleheader from Post 1172 Thursday at Frandsen Bank and Trust Field.

Riccio started and worked two innings of no-hit ball. He struck out two and walked four. Vesel tossed two innings, allowing two hits, striking out two and walking two. Menara worked one inning. He gave up one hit, fanned two and walked one.

Caz Carlson tossed all five innings for Rock Ridge. He gave up seven hits, struck out three and walked one.

It was 2-2 after one innings, then Post 1221 scored twice in the third to take a 4-2 lead.

Post 1172 would score once in their half of the third inning, but neither team was able to push any runs across the plate in the fourth and fifth innings.

Offensively, Hibbing was led by Davey with two hits, including a triple and two RBI. Riccoi hit a double, and also getting one hit each were Vesel,Menara, Conner Heaton and James Jivery.

Vesel and Lamphere each had an RBI.

Scott hit a solo home run for Rock Ridge. Coombe and Marolt each had one hit, with Coombe picking up an RBI.
