    Riihinen's capture Summer Classic title

    HIBBING—The Summer Classic three-pearson scramble event was held Saturday and Sunday at the Mesaba Country Club.

    The three-brother team of Jake, Ryan and Eric Riihinen claimed the top spot, winning the championship flight with a two-day total of 117.

    The Riihinen’s trailed the first-round leaders of Conner Willard, Nate Burke and Tucker D’Allaird by two shots heading into the second day of the tournament after shooting a first-round 59,.

    The Riihinen’s fired the low round of the day on day two with a 58, and narrowly squeaked out a one-shot victory over the team from Bemidji consisting of Clint Cornell, Jeff Peltier and Kurt Fenner.

    In the Senior Division, the team of Scott Maki, Scott Spier and Mike Antonovich had rounds of 60 and 63 to handily win that title over the three-brother team of Robert, Larry and Paul Valentini.

    The Valentini’s finished four shots back with a two-day score of 127.

    Other flight winners were as follows:

    First flight—Jeff Cowling, Zach Morehouse, Jared Zezel (125); Second flight—John Rue, Jon Rue, Doug Torrell (129); Third flight—Tim Kunst, Tabitha Kunst, Carissa Kunst (129).

    Fourth flight—Keith Saralampi, Adam Saralampi, Ryan Saralampi (132); Fifth flight—(tie) Tom Fillman, Brent Newman, Lance Hopke; Scott Sosalla, Nick Sosalla, Lexi Sosalla (133).

    Sixth flight—Steve DeHaven, Dave Vineski, Jack Otto (137); Seventh flight—Cole Schafer, Greg Gargano, Tony Giombetti (69, 18 holes).
